Arnold Worldwide and Following Boston are partnering up to host an #InstaMeet

July 22nd, 2017 (7pm–8:30pm)

To optimize grammable content, the photo walk will take place during golden hour and sunset. During the stroll, we will be exploring the Boston Harborwalk, Fort Point, Seaport District, and Fan Pier. From the skyline, to the water, to the classic Bostonian architecture, there will be no shortage of killer visual opportunities.

Photo Contest

The photo contest is sponsored by Leica Store Boston. The winner will receive a Leica Sofort camera, a pack of Instax film, and some Leica swag.

The theme of our contest is Leading Lines. This compositional technique uses lines to draw the viewer’s attention to the main subject of the photo. Try to utilize roadways, architecture, bridges, and buildings in your composition. Have fun with it. Make some cool shit.

To submit your photos for consideration

use hashtag #leadinglinesboston and follow/tag @leicastoreboston, @arnold_worldwide, @followingboston and @makersbreakers

Leica Store Boston // Following Boston
#Instameet

SOLD OUT

June 3rd, 2017 (3pm-8pm)

We’re proud to announce our first Instameet, in collaboration with the ever creative social media scientist Michael Kalish of Following Boston, The Social Photography Experiment. Meet the photographers in your Instagram feed and come create dynamic images of the city, with us. Leica cameras will be available for loan during the walk so please bring a memory card – first come first serve. After the walk we will be screening new episodes from Michael’s current season of Following Boston, with refreshments and a chance to socialize throughout the evening.

As an added twist, we will have a short form photo contest during the walk. Using the Huawei Mate 9, co-engineered by Leica, all attendees will have a chance to shoot with the dual lens, dual sensor camera on this new phone, to create and edit images following a theme. The winner of the Huawei Mate 9 photo contest will receive their very own Huawei P9 and a feature on the Leica Store Boston Instagram!

June 3rd, 3PM – 8PM

This Saturday, the event many of you have been inquiring about is upon us: our first instameet, in collaboration with Following Boston. The response to this event has been incredible. Within 72 hours of announcing the event we had over 120 RSVP’s, ultimately reaching our cap of 200 RSVP’s within the following weeks, the maximum for our space. We have a multifaceted approach to our meet and we hope for this to be a community growing experience for all involved.

Loaner Gear – 3PM
There will be a plethora of Leica cameras for loan during the event, from the Leica Q to the Leica SL, Leica M10 to the Leica D-Lux (Typ 109). Participants must have an ID card, credit card, and SD memory card. In addition to Leica cameras we have Huawei Mate 9 cellphones with the Leica designed dual camera. These phones have two Leica designed cameras - one dedicated color camera and one dedicated black and white only image sensor, both with 20MP of resolution. If you primarily shoot with your mobile device, we suggest you give these a try.

Due to the high response of the event, we will not have a camera and phone for everyone and this gear will be loaned out on a first come first serve basis.

Photo Walk – 3:30PM
We have planned a 1.5 mile route that runs from Leica Store Boston, past the Public Garden, through the Theater District, Downtown Crossing, Financial District, Chinatown, and back to Leica Store Boston. This route is optional and is not mandatory for the photo contest, however we planned this route keeping in mind the time of day, direction of light, and the possibilities to make images following the theme of the photo contest. This is estimated at 1.5 hours based on our trial walk.

Photo Contest
The theme of our contest is Shadow and Form. This can be interpreted literally or metaphorically, but clear intention should be seen. Photographs will be judged based on content, composition, and how the image relates to the theme.

We have expanded upon our original contest to include 3 categories, and 3 Huawei Mate 9 cell phones as prizes! The 3 categories is as follows.

– Huawei Mate 9 shot - #shadowandformhuawei

– Leica Camera shot - #shadowandformleica

– General submission from any camera. #shadowandformboston

Submit to the contest via appropriate hashtag, tagging and following @leicastoreboston@leicagalleryboston@huaweideviceusa, and @followingboston.
Please, one entry only per participant. Winners will be announced the following day. All images submitted to the contest are subject for use in Leica Store Boston social media with image credit to the photographer.

Following Boston New Episodes Premiere – 5:30PM
Producer Michael Kalish of Following Boston is set to premiere several new episodes from this current season of Following Boston. These short form documentaries are about your peers, highlighting their stories in and around Boston, posting their vision to the world one picture at a time.

Reception – 6PM - 8PM
Food and drink will be served following the movie premiere. For dinner, there will be BBQ meat, sides, and salad. We will have a Leica Store Boston photo booth set up featuring the Leica S camera, with all photos available for download the next day. And of course, networking, music, and conversation!

We look forward to meeting you all.
